Cyrus Kabiru (b. 1984, Nairobi, Kenya) push the boundaries of conventional craftsmanship, sculpture, photography, design and fashion. In his work he refers to both his home in Kenya and to international countries and cities that he travels to. His practice includes large scale sculptures, installation, and documentary films. Notable solo exhibitions include Upcoming , Kuona Trust, Nairobi, Kenya (2010) and Cyrus Kabiru Kunstpodium T Gallery, Tilburg, Netherlands (2011). He has exhibited widely internationally, and his work is included in prominent collections such as the Saatchi & Abel Collection, London, UK and The Studio Museum, New York, USA. He lives and works in Nairobi, Kenya.

In this self-portrait the artist wears his own sculptural creation handmade from discarded objects. Known as a C-stunner, this intricate eyewear is crafted from a black shoe polish tin, bullet cases, steel pen tips and micro board chips connected by wire. Taken from the Macho Nne series meaning `four-eyes’ in Swahili, the sculpture stands out from Kabiru’s face against a very dark background. The photograph’s title references the name of a luxury shopping mall in Nairobi which became a target for a terrorist attack.
