Postcard – Multi-Colour Marcus Brutus When We See Us A5
$3.50
Marcus Brutus paints his Black diasporic subjects in disparate settings: His figures exercise, read, relax, and work across beaches, barbershops, lawns, and living rooms. Brutus captures them all with bold contours and vibrant palettes as he subtly references Black artists and thinkers who range from Nikki Giovani and Angela Davis to Frantz Fanon and Roy DeCarava. Brutus is self-taught; he studied science and worked in public relations before pursuing fine art.
Marcus Brutus postcard from the new exhibition titled `When We See Us: A Century of Black Figuration in Painting’. Artists explore different themes, including that of `Repose’. Lounging, hands locked behind our heads, relishing the peace that comes with being still, we rest, unwind and indulge. Fully reclined, sinking into soft plush sofas, limbs stretched out, there is no rush as we revel in idleness. When in solitude, we sit, stare, dream, introspect.
A5 postcard.
